History & Charter

The Humaneity Foundation was registered as a "charitable foundation" by the Commissioner of Charities, an office of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports in Singapore in December 2008.

The Foundation was set up almost a year earlier by Mark Philpott who rode on his favourite Triumph Tiger motorcycle northward from Singapore across the Indochinese peninsular in December 2007. The trip through some of the world's most impoverished and destitute countries turned out to be a source of inspiration for Mark. The opportunity to realise this aspiration was realized in the heart of Cambodia, where he was instantly drawn to the warm smiles of scrawny kids playing in the muddy compound of Aknuwat Primary School. The Humaneity Foundation was thus born in Kampong Thom, a village that is home to 70,000 people.

Ongoing development projects at Aknuwat School are established under four pillars which form the foundation's blueprint. The four pillar categories are - Education, Exercise, Environment and Engagement.

Volunteers come from various walks of life and from different parts of the world. They can contribute in one or more of these areas
- improving infrastructure and amenities
- creating an environment more conducive to learning
- introducing programs to promote the general health and well-being of individuals
- sharing knowledge based ideas and skills to build a self-sufficient community
- raising environmental awareness to preserve a sustainable future, and
- collaborating with other local humanitarian groups.

The Humaneity Foundation plans to continue to recruit volunteers who want to make a difference in the world.

Longer term, the foundation has plans to expand its projects around the globe and with that to expand its global network of local leaders.
